I made a post here over a year ago, and wanted to follow up because I have found some answers that might help others.
Last time I wrote, I described how I was "on several medicines, and literally can't sleep a wink without them, but unfortunately even with them I'm still tired because I still don't sleep enough and because the medicine makes me groggy for the first few hours of the next morning."
I made a move to be near a specialist called a Neurological Chiropractor. After 20 years of being unable to sleep without medicine, I was able to get off my medicine within a month, and I've stayed off ever since. I've been completely free of sleep medicine for over a year now.
They investigate and recommend things you'd never guess. Things like an interactive metronome, like listening to music in only a certain ear, doing exercises on only one side of the both, etc. I never imagined some simple things like that would make such a difference, but they really did. They made a world of difference.
My brand of insomnia was related to brain issues, not breathing issues, so if your issue is breathing, I don't think that a Neurological Chiropractor would be able to do the same thing for you as he did for me. But whether your issue is breathing or not, it's more than worth it to find out what they can do.
Again, for twenty years I went to some of the finest physicians only to find them trying me on more medicine like an experiment. The right answer is not more medicine. The answer is to retrain the mind in a way that fixes what is wrong, so that we can sleep.
God bless you in your search for answers and a good night's sleep.
